Dr. Maria Astrid Urrutia
Dr. Maria Astrid Urrutia graduated from the University of Calgary in 2000 where she received her Bachelor of Science with Distinction. She was accepted into the University of Alberta where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 2004. Dr. Urrutia, wanting to further her dental education, attended a postgraduate program at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston, TX. There she received an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Diploma in 2005.
Dr. Urrutia realized her passion for dentistry as a teenager. She worked as a dental assistant for her father, a well-known prosthodontist in Calgary, throughout high school and university. Dr. Urrutia continues to be passionate about the profession and is committed to a lifetime of learning. She stays current by taking several courses a year in Continuing Education. Dr. Urrutia has been involved with the Seattle Study Club, the American Dental Association, and the Texas Dental Association. Dr. Urrutia is also a certified Invisalign Provider.
Dr. Urrutia, having practiced in Houston, TX for almost 11 years, has returned to her hometown of Calgary. She practices dentistry with the highest of standards. Her patients would describe her as an honest, patient, gentle and compassionate practitioner. Dr. Urrutia enjoys educating her patients on options to improve their general oral health. She is a member of the Alberta Dental Association and College and the Canadian Dental Association.
Dr. Urrutia is now the owner of Northland Smiles Dental after having acquired the practice from Dr. Barbara Chipeur. Her attachment to practicing dentistry in the Northland Professional Building goes all the way back to her retired father who also had a practice in the building. So returning to the Northland Professional Centre is like returning home for her!
In her spare time, Dr. Urrutia enjoys travelling with her family and spending time with friends. Most of all, she enjoys spending quality time with her daughters and watching them grow.
